What is Rookie Rugby 7s
Rookie Rugby 7s is an introductory game of rugby that takes athletes in grades 6th – 8th from non-contact Rookie Rugby to contact rugby. It is the second step in USA Rugby’s Rugby for All Continuum and is a great way to introduce kids to the newest Olympic Sport.
The rules of Rookie Rugby 7s are designed to ensure that all athletes learn the game safely.
The season will be held 1 day a week on Wednesdays, lasting a total of 8 weeks, starting on March 23, 2016. There will be the a few special events held on a Saturday.
Any weather make ups will be added onto the schedule at the end of the season.
Time: 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. (all players should arrive 15min early to start on time)

Basics of the Game
OBJECT – The object of the game is to have fun and score tries. A try is scored when a player enters the try zone and grounds the ball. Try = 5 points
AGES – Rookie Rugby 7s in meant to be enjoyed for all ages. The game is designed for boys and girls aged nine and older. It is recommended that boys and girls play together through the age of 11. For players 12 and older, it is recommended that there is no mixed gender contact.
TACKLING & MAKING A TACKLE – Tackling is one of the most important techniques to learn in contact rugby. Players will be taught proper positioning and technique in order to ensure safety and prevention of injury. In rugby, any player carrying the ball is eligible to be tackled. Players without the ball must not be tackled at any time. Players must not slam, shove, or swing the opposition by their jersey; a rugby tackle requires a full arm wrapping. High tackles and those mentioned previous are considered dangerous and will be penalized.
